PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
The Island is still a secret hideaway for most. Although it has recently been listed as one of the top islands to visit in travel magazines as Conde Nast and Travel and Leisure among others.
I'll start by giving you some facts about Prince Edward Island:
- It’s population is 138,000.
- It is the smallest province in Canada. From tip to tip it has 280 km (175 miles) to offer.
- There are only 2 cities on the Island, Charlottetown and Summerside. Seven towns and many villages are spread throughout.
- The soil is red, due to iron oxide which rusts on exposure to air.
Why people love the Island:
Different aspects of the Island bring visitors to PEI, the first time. What will arouse your curiosity?
- The association of beaches and relaxation which an island brings? It offers miles of sandy beaches and red sandstone cliffs.
- The mystery of a writer, Lucy Maud Montgomery, compelled such characters as Anne of Green Gables?
- Your culinary appetite for fresh seafood, especially lobster? There is nothing better than a fresh catch.
- The different shades of green and its rolling landscape? Some say it reminds them of their “homeland”. Personally, it reminds me of Tuscany.
-The Islanders entertainment talents? It is a lively place with festivals, concerts, dancers, theatre and more. If you want a true “in” of the Island’s talent, why not get backstage passes to the Victoria Playhouse.
There are plenty of reasons to visit PEI but do you know why people return to the Island?
You’ll know the answer to this question shortly during your first visit. It is that easy. The Islanders make PEI so special. Their way of life!
- Where can you expect a corner store owner to look for a tool you need, in her own house? And then give it to you to use – for free!
- Where do you get a “hi” everywhere you go? If you have time to stop, you’ll be amazed at the stories you’ll hear.
- Where can you go to get freshly made ice cream? Many of the communities’ “……Socials” offer these.
Actually, I wonder if the Islanders realize how great and lucky they are. The first question they ask, if you are visiting for more than 2 weeks is: “do you have family here?”
